I think your analysis of this topic is so important Shelley. Too many people blindly follow the "label" and listen to the panacea of truth for a good intentioned goal; i.e. Real Simple magazine. I have always known this magazine was another ploy of consumerism. It's sad really that even the idea of simple living is now riddled with the hidden consumerism that has the infected what we call the "Green Washing" world. The perfect example of that is Whole Foods. I love how every nouveau environmentalist starts off their conversation with you by stating "well I shop at whole foods!" As if that is what makes you an activist. The fact is that these traps of consumerism are placed for the average shmo who doesn't really think an original thought but is following the trend. The current trend is going to be and is becoming to save the planet (thank goodness) but the problem is there are traps set out there that seem like you are saving the planet (by trying to live "Real Simple") but really, you are actually falling for another ploy to by stuff from China you don't need!

Whole foods is one of those places that has lost it's essence. Is it true (someone correct me if it is not) that Whole Foods gets it's food from two farms? And why do they carry meat? And why do they have stores that have a larger ecologic footprint that any Ralphs or Vons I've been to in LA?

The fact is that $$$ drives this. Any your analysis exposing frauds like Real Simple is what people need as tools to start THINKING and stop following. Our grandparents used to call it "common sense". We've decided to opt for a "new and improved" version called "convenience... I want, and I want it now!"

Good investigative work.

For readers who read Golden Spiral. Don't just read the articles. Email the link to your friends... be a revolutionary. It takes a few clicks... be ACTIVE and drive the point of reading these thoughtful, well written and factual articles into your people's heads. I know I do, and the people I force to read these topics thank me later.

Be the change, but spread the change even more vigilantly!

Stay Brave!
