I know we have all heard about the issues with our bees. But, I just learned what it was actually called… Colony Collapse Disorder.
To get more information go HERE. Some great information can also be found HERE.
I think I might investigate getting a beehive for my roof! I’ll let you know….
disposal or dispose

Really interesting quandry posted on Slate today…. to disposal or dispose? What is better for the environment?
click HERE for the summary. But, here is the conclusion:
The research is unambiguous about one point, though: Under normal circumstances, you should always compost if you can. Otherwise, go ahead and use your garbage disposal if the following conditions are met: First, make sure that your community isn’t running low on water. (To check your local status, click here.) Don’t put anything that is greasy or fatty in the disposal. And find out whether your local water-treatment plant captures methane to produce energy. If it doesn’t—and your local landfill does—you may be better off tossing those mashed potatoes in the trash.

To all my Los Angelino’s… we should be very grateful. I think we live in a great city. And, if things go the way the mayor wants, it will be even more fantastic.
Mayor Villaraigosa has been wanting for a long time to turn Los Angeles into the most sustainable city in the country. I, for one, am behind him 100%
HERE is an article posted in February about his plans. And HERE are some pictures of our involvement in Park(ing) Day LA. And HERE is his website and some links to Green LA, as well as his just announced plan for environmentally friendly affordable housing for our city!

I was going to post about this a few days ago, but I am happy I was delayed.
I heard that Ecuador was going to hold a vote garnering equal and legal rights to nature. Yep. You read that correctly. I am happy I was delayed because now I can tell you the happy news…. IT PASSED!!
You can read an article about it HERE.
Here is an excerpt:
Nature … where life is reproduced and exists, has the right to exist, persist, maintain, and regenerate its vital cycles, structure, functions, and its processes in evolution. Every person, people, community, or nationality will be able to demand the recognition of rights for nature before the public bodies.
I think this is a bold move of forward thinking.

The Vatican installed solar panels yesterday!
According to the workers involved in the project, a total of 2700 panels will be placed to provide 300,000 kilowatt hours which will be used to illuminate, heat or cool the building where the pontiff holds his general audiences in the winter and in bad weather.
The Pope seems to be a man who walks what he talks. Now… if we could just get him to change his mind about abortion and gay marriage……

if you happen to go to San Fran… may I suggest a stop to the California Academy of Sciences.
Why? Cause it’s cool and because it’s the only place on the planet with an aquarium, a planetarium, a natural history museum, and a 4-story rainforest all under one roof.

Recently, they started creating GOOD sheets, which you may have seen at Starbucks. click HERE. They have done one on CO2, health, and their latest is on immigration. They are concise, informative, and worth the time.
