In all honesty, I can’t even believe this was an article that had to be published. Needless to say, it was and I feel it is something I need to share with you.

Click HERE. And, then please, PLEASE don’t flush your drugs down the toilet. (feels weird even writing that.)

You can go HERE if you live in Los Angeles.

If you live near Pasadena and have nothing to do, may I suggest an art exhibit that opens today: Second Growth by William Stranger .

A second growth forest is one that has re-grown after it has been heavily logged or clear-cut. The exhibition Second Growth explores the “second life” of trees. Using salvaged materials as well as finely crafted furniture and hand carved objects, Stranger’s installation invokes the life cycle of a tree. The artist strives to have as little impact on the environment as possible and gives discarded, neglected wood a new existence, creating a new experience of the same wood. Influenced by the structure of trees, buildings and animals, his work exemplifies restraint, simplicity and harmony.

As soon as the dust settles with the financial crisis, you are going to be encouraged to buy, buy, BUY! This is the governments solution to everything. Have you ever wondered why?

It is for one simple reason… the only thing we have is our consumerism. What do I mean? We don’t have an industry. Why do you think there are daily reports on consumer confidence? Our entire economy is based on what we buy and sell.

Well, I would like to encourage you to live simply. And, by this I do not mean “Real Simple”-ly.

HERE is an editorial from Daily Green about the topic. And HERE is the direct link to the author.

Oh crap. This administration is kind of sneaky… it is the Modus Operandi. So, while we are all losing sleep over which bank is collapsing where… the president announced today it plans to appoint someone new to the Department of Energy.

Who….? F. Chase Hutto, III. He’s friends with Cheney.

Whole… and I use that word loosely… Food

I would like to direct you to THIS site and an essay on Whole Foods.

I do believe that Whole Foods is a better choice than Ralph’s or Von’s or Albertson’s or Costco. But, do not believe the hype that they are all good. The organic food industry has, in some ways, become just as wasteful and just as corporate and industrial as the traditional food industry. If Whole Foods really practiced what it seems to preach, they wouldn’t allow banana’s from Costa Rica or apple’s from New Zealand. Do you ever wonder why you cannot get banana’s at a farmer’s market in Los Angeles. When you eat sustainably and locally, yes, there are some things you will not get any longer. I think it is a very small price to pay for making a better decision for the environment and dependency on oil.

My advice is to first and foremost buy from a farmer’s market. Second, if possible, find a smaller, locally owned organic store. If you have to go to Whole Foods but stay away from the aisles… there isn’t “whole” food in those places… in case you don’t know the difference… broccoli is whole, frozen fettucini alfredo with broccoli is not.

Great website to find all things eco-food. GREENOPIA also has amazing references, but it is limited to certain cities, right now.

“running the numbers”

Some of you may have seen this before, but if not I wanted to share with you the artist Chris Jordan and his website. Click HERE.

We hear statistics like: we use “one million plastic cups, the number used on airline flights in the US every six hours”, or “two million plastic bottles are used every five minutes” in the U.S. But we also know, as I linked to HERE, that with the Psychology of Global Warming, that without a face we do not get the urgency of our climate destabilization.

Jordan’s artwork helps put a face or picture to the issues so we can see what we are doing to our home.
