A Divine Inspiration
The prayer room, named "Heaven's Voice," was conceived by an elder from a local church, who envisioned a sacred space on the university campus. With several potential sites available, the architect, a Christian themselves, made a remarkable observation. They saw the university's layout as resembling a sheep, and a small hill at its center caught their eye. This strategic location, visible from various campus buildings, became the perfect spot to create a heavenly cross, a symbol that would be visible from above, a perspective that adds a layer of spiritual depth to the design.
A Cross from Above
The architect's intention was to create a cross that would be inscribed from a heavenly perspective, a unique and thought-provoking concept. This design choice adds a layer of complexity and intrigue to the project, inviting visitors to consider the space from a different, more spiritual angle.
But here's where it gets controversial: should architecture always be functional, or can it also serve a higher purpose, a spiritual one?
And this is the part most people miss: the prayer room's design is a subtle yet powerful statement, a reminder of the university's connection to faith and its role in nurturing spiritual growth alongside academic pursuits.
The prayer room, with its area of 190 square meters, was completed in 2023, and it features manufacturers such as Allon Wood, LX Hausys, Macheonseok, NanumTech, and VM zinc.
