As the MotoGP circus heads to Le Mans, all eyes are on Jorge Martin, the former champion who is brimming with confidence and ready to showcase his progress. Martin, who missed part of the winter testing due to unforeseen circumstances, utilized the Jerez post-race test to familiarize himself with Aprilia's existing parts and evaluate new developments. Despite ranking last among the RS-GP riders on the timesheets, his enthusiasm remained unwavering.
"Every new component I tried on the bike felt like a step forward," Martin explained. "These parts enhanced my bike's handling and provided more rear grip, making it more suited to my riding style. I feel more connected to my bike with each track session."
Martin, who narrowly missed out on points to his title-leading teammate Marco Bezzecchi at the Spanish Grand Prix, is making his Aprilia debut at Le Mans, having sat out last year's race due to injury. With a positive outlook, he aims to validate the progress made on different tracks and confirm the effectiveness of the new technical solutions.
"I'm feeling physically strong, even better than in my previous races," Martin said. "I'm convinced we'll take another step forward here at Le Mans."
Martin's last appearance at Le Mans in 2024, riding for Pramac Ducati, resulted in a victory. Meanwhile, Bezzecchi, the winner of the 2023 event on a VR46 Ducati, qualified seventh and finished 14th in last year's flag-to-flag race. Currently, Bezzecchi leads the world championship by eleven points over Martin.
"Le Mans is an incredible circuit with a passionate fan base," Bezzecchi said. "I'm eager to continue my strong performance, and we'll work with the team to be competitive throughout the weekend and secure a good race result."
