Meagher, now known as Meagher Plant, shattered the American Record in the 200 Short Course Meters Butterfly, proving that age is just a number in the world of Masters Swimming.
But here's where it gets controversial... Meagher, racing at the iconic 1996 Olympic Pool, clocked an impressive 2:40.92, beating the previous record set by Laura Val in 2011. However, she fell just shy of the World Record, set by Canadian Ilka Lowensteyn, at 2:39.81.
And this is the part most people miss: Meagher, a true champion, already holds the World Record in the long course, with a time of 2:39.31. So, why did she aim for the American Record? Perhaps it's a testament to her unwavering spirit and a desire to inspire a new generation of swimmers.
