The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has unveiled a special coin that will commemorate the Year of the Horse in 2026. This new addition to the Singapore Fourth Chinese Almanac Coin Series is a significant release, featuring a familiar landmark in a unique setting.
A Horse's Tale in Punggol
The 2026 Year of the Horse coin showcases the majestic horse against the backdrop of Punggol Waterway Park, a vibrant green space along the North Eastern Riverine Loop. This park, spanning over 25 hectares, is a key part of Punggol Town's transformation into a modern waterfront destination.
A Coin Series with a Unique Twist
Launched in 2017, this series introduces a new coin each year until 2028. Each coin celebrates an animal from the Chinese zodiac cycle, all set within the natural beauty of Singapore's parks and landscapes. The 2026 coin is no exception, offering a fresh perspective on a traditional symbol.
Design and Features
The coin will be available in 10 different variations, each with its own distinct face value, shape, metallic composition, and minting relief effect. This diversity allows collectors to choose their favorite, whether it's the rectangular fine silver coin with a face value of S$80 (US$61) or the round fine gold coin with a face value of S$200. For those seeking a more comprehensive collection, four special premium coin sets are also available, featuring various combinations of silver and gold coins.

Pre-orders for the 2026 Year of the Horse coin series are open until December 14, 2025, and can be placed online at https://www.singaporemint.com/ or by calling the Singapore Mint. The coins will be available for public purchase from January 1, 2026. MAS reminds collectors that these coins are legal tender at their face value and can be redeemed at their face value when exchanged with banks or MAS.

While the coins may hold sentimental value, MAS advises that there's no guarantee of future value appreciation or the ability to sell them at their purchase price in the secondary market.
