Mercedes confirms its full-time F1 safety and medical car partnership for 2026
Mercedes has officially announced its continued role as the sole provider of safety and medical cars for every Formula 1 race weekend in 2026. This news comes on the heels of Aston Martin's confirmation that its contract with the Brackley-based team would end in 2025, leaving a gap in the market.
This partnership marks a significant milestone for Mercedes, which has been a fixture in F1 safety and medical car provision since 1996. The brand will celebrate its 30th anniversary of providing safety cars in the championship, with its first outing at the 1996 French Grand Prix. Additionally, safety car driver Bernd Mayländer will reach a remarkable 500 grands prix in the role, a testament to his dedication and expertise.
Christoph Sagemüller, head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, emphasized the importance of safety in their brand and products, stating, "Safety is an absolutely central value of our brand and our products." This commitment is reflected in their long-standing role as the Official FIA F1 Safety and Medical Car provider.
The FIA Safety Car, a symbol of safety and performance, will once again bear the Mercedes star at all F1 events starting from the 2026 season. This partnership not only contributes to the safety of the premier class of motorsport but also showcases the performance, reliability, and safety of Mercedes-AMG vehicles under extreme conditions.
Pre-season testing in Bahrain will take place in February, followed by the season's opening event, the Australian Grand Prix, in March. The Motorsport.com team invites readers to share their opinions and ideas for the website through a short survey.
