Bold takeaway: A local residence is under federal scrutiny after authorities uncovered a large collection of primates, sparking questions about animal welfare and legal compliance. And this is the part most people miss: the situation involves more than a dozen monkeys plus other pets, with officials conducting a live inventory while no arrests have been reported yet.
WKRG News 5 reports that federal agents are actively investigating a home on Schimpfs Lane in Tillmans Corner, where they found over a dozen monkeys kept in cages. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service arrived on the scene and placed yellow caution tape across the front of the residence as the inquiry began.
Christina J. Harris of WKRG News 5 was the first reporter on site to cover the developing story. The investigation also included other agencies from the National Wildlife Refuge System, who joined the scene alongside local authorities.
The property, which includes multiple outdoor cages and kennels, is currently under inventory assessment to determine the total number of animals present, which also includes domestic cats and dogs.
Neighbors offered remarks. Tara Summers, who knows the area and shared a personal anecdote from her childhood about interacting with animals in the neighborhood, described her past familiarity with monkeys and other wildlife in the vicinity.
Authorities have not reported any arrests at this time. Updates will follow as more information becomes available as the investigation continues.
