Uganda's capital city, Kampala, has been a political battleground for decades, with the opposition's grip on power deepening as election season approaches. Despite the National Resistance Movement (NRM)'s repeated attempts to gain control, Kampala's political landscape has remained largely unchanged for over two decades. This enduring trend can be attributed to a series of legal reforms, particularly the amendment allowing direct election of mayors, which reshaped city politics and entrenched the opposition's stronghold. Since the introduction of direct elections, the city's political tide has turned, with citizens voting for leaders who understand and share their everyday struggles. The numbers paint a clear picture: the National Unity Platform (NUP) holds nine out of ten elective positions in Kampala, with the NRM controlling only Kampala Central.
